Happy Gardening With Dothan Nurseries

Well, before we got busy with this good Fall weather I went to the beach for a few days last week.  And this was my view . . .

Beautiful right?  Well, from a certain perspective it is beautiful.  You see, these pictures were taken at Cape San Blas.  We like to go to the beach there because it is quiet with no putt putt golf or roller coasters.  The problem is Hurricane Michael, which hit Mexico Beach really hard about 365 days ago.  Cape San Blas is only about 30 miles from there, and it was hit pretty hard as well.  The pictures above are the beach rebuilding.  Below is the aerial view of the before and after.

Quite a difference huh?  The coolest thing to me was the boat they were using to pump the sand to the shore.  The boat would sit directly out from our house, pumping sand back to the shore.  Then bulldozers would level it out.  We talked to one of the workers and he said they would work 24 hours a day for 45 days and would finish the whole Cape.   So, the boat would leave every afternoon and come back in the morning, we thought to refuel.  We thought surely the boat is sucking sand from the bottom and pumping it to the beach.  WRONG!  One of the workers told us that the boat goes out 10 miles every night and fills the whole boat up with sand and brings it back in and pumps it to the beach.  This blew my mind.  The money and effort that went into this is hard to wrap my head around.  I am glad to see it happen though.   As it says in Ecclesiastes, To Everything There is a Season.  And this is a rebuilding season for many parts of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia after Hurricane Michael. And as much as the hurricane was a terrible thing, it's nice to feel this new season of cool weather coming around right now.  Happy Fall!
