I forgot how good this was!

I like food. I like food a lot. According to my pants, I like food too much. I have given my jeans a pretty rough time over the last two or three years. My family and I were laughing the other night. I was telling them that when I was being raised in Headland Alabama that my mom just didn't really have junk food in the house. They all kind of gave me blank stares. My wife sarcastically asked how I got so big without all that junk food. I told her that it wasn't that I didn't eat the junk food. I just didn't have it at home. I told her I guess I got it from the convenience store. Or as we called it in Headland, "The Zippy Mart or Jr. Food Store". My youngest son laughed and asked . . . "Did you go to the convenience store every 30 minutes?!" We have had a good laugh about that one? But I did figure out a piece of the puzzle when my family went to my old church in Headland last week for a Homecoming. The service was great. The people were great. It was fun visiting and seeing everyone again. But this was the best part!

If you grew up going to a Methodist Church in the South, you know what that is right? COVERED DISH! All the good stuff. Fried Chicken, Squash Casserole, some stuff I don't know what it is but I love it, and my favorite WATERGATE SALAD! It was heaven! Good people and good food.

My plate!

My son's first Covered Dish!

So yes. I put on a few pounds during COVID. Can't blame it on that much longer. I've been eating better and working out a little more. But no matter what, I'll never be able to resist a good Covered Dish! What's your favorite Covered Dish item?

Happy Gardening,

Tip of the week! I know you've heard it before, but Fall is for Planting! Now is the time to plant trees & shrubs in your yard. The cool weather has lots of benefits for you and your new plant. There is so much less stress on the tree this time of year. They go dormant in the cold weather and don't need nearly as much water. If you buy a tree in July and don't water it for five days, it could die. If you plant a tree now and don't water for five days, it's not that big of a deal. Especially with the cooler weather. So, beat the heat! Plant your trees & shrubs now!

Song of the week!
