Remember to forget & to Remember

There are three things that make me cry . . . The last four minutes of the movie Selena. The song Waiting on June by Holly Williams. But mostly I get emotional when talking about my Alma Mater Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. If you've been reading my stories for a while, you know I attended Wofford College in the late 90's (I had never heard of Wofford College either). I studied business and played a little football. I met some of the kindest, sweetest, best friends ever. Wofford College and South Carolina have played such a huge part in who I am. My wife is from Rock Hill, SC. So, about three months ago, my good buddy David invited me and about 15 other guys that attended Wofford to go on a hunting trip out in Texas. I was hesitant at first. I really wanted to go, but sometimes I have trouble leaving the nursery and having some ME TIME. I asked my wife Mindy about it, and she said YES, please GO! I think that was a good thing? Anyway . . . last week, I reconnected and bonded with a bunch of the coolest guys I'll ever know. Some were close friends already (Charles & David). Some were kind of friends who are now close friends (James & Matt & Macon). Some were guys I've looked up to since the day I met them and have always been in awe of (Chris & Gibbs). Really, I just felt lucky to be in the same room with these guys. The whole time. I was in heaven! The stories we all told. The laughs we had. Everything was wonderful. We walked, we talked, we ate, we drank, we hunted. It was like I was back in Spartanburg, SC, if only for a few days. It was magical!

The best part though? I forgot & I remembered . . . I completely disconnected from the real world for a few days. I forgot the real world. I forgot my job. I forgot a lot of things. Just for a few days, and it felt good. But . . . I remembered. I remembered how much I appreciate God for sending me to a little school I had never heard of with only about 1000 students back in 1995. I had no idea what I was in for. I remembered that it's OK to forget about work and let my wonderful employees take care of it for me (they did great BTW). And I remembered how lucky I am to know such a great group of guys who are blessing this world with their kindness and hard work. Thank you guys, and thank you David So . . . with that. Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy tomorrow. It's a special day. What do you need to forget about just for a day? What do you need to remember more frequently?

Happy Gardening,

JD Boone

Song of the week!

Might as well stay on Wofford College while I'm at it. My buddy Gibbs and some other guys started a band while I was at Wofford. If I ever had a chance to go watch them I was there! Front row! I can sing every one of their probably 50 songs word for word.

One of my favorites takes me back to Wofford College every time I hear it. So chill, so cool . . . Click here to listen to Send Me Away by Five Way Friday.
