It happened again. It was messy. It smelled bad. It was dangerous. Fires were lit. Decapitations were a real possibility. Yep, it was Father/Son weekend at the lake! I believe I've told you before that me and few other dads take our sons to the lake once a year. No moms involved. Just guys, a boat, and lots of food. I sent out these two pictures to everyone in the group text to start the weekend, which was back in July.
Plenty of Food . . . check! More necessities . . . check!
Beyond all the food and fun, the teenage boys come for one thing. That one thing is for me to pull them on two tubes for about eight hours a day for two days straight. When we started off a few years ago it was all fun and games. Now there are two tubes, and an all out war to hang out and to push each other off the tube. Now I have to be careful. I don't really care to just go so fast that I sling them off, but I do want to hit that PERFECT wave that sends them all airborne! It is an art I've perfected over the years. We had several unbelievable waves that the boys jumped. Here is my favorite picture from the weekend.
In the end, we all had a blast. We ate too much. Had minimal injuries, and just had an old-fashioned good time. I'll keep you updated on next year's trip. The boys are getting really big. As they say, "I'm gonna need a bigger boat!"
The good news is the lake water was cool. Just like these last few days. Cooler weather is on the way.
Come see us.
Fall plants are starting to trickle in!
Happy Gardening,

Song of the week!
I remember it like it was yesterday. It was the summer of 1995. I was about to head off to Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. My friend April gave me a CD as a birthday present. The CD was by Phish. The album was Hoist. I never turned out to be a big Phish fan. But . . . I listened to this CD about 1000 times in college and still have the CD here at the nursery today. I do love this album. My favorite song was called If I Could. Click here to listen to If I Could by Phish. PS, the whole album is awesome! And if you like Allison Krauss you should listen really closely!
Tip of the week! If you need to prune some shrubs, do it now! No later than this weekend. When you prune, it forces your plant to push out new leaves. New leaves that haven't hardened off by our first cold snap will struggle a lot. So, if you need to prune your boxwoods, roses, or holly bushes. Do it this weekend!
